Five new mixed-use developments transforming Sandton

South Africa's richest square mile, Sandton, has consistently held the highest level of new office developments in the country. And although latest reports indicate that the development pipeline is slowing down, this suburb still finds a way to break records and bring game-changing commercial buildings to the fore.

2020 can be described as the year incredible mixed-use developments are hitting the market. These are changing the commercial landscape and leading Sandton into a new chapter of modernity, energy-efficiency, architectural brilliance, and technological smarts.

So if you're currently looking for premium office space in Sandton, these five commercial buildings may just be exactly what your business needs:

  1. The Leonardo
The Leonardo is the new tallest building in Africa, standing 768 feet tall and spanning 55 storeys. It opened its doors at the beginning of March of this year and has become one of the most prestigious addresses for businesses. It boasts 15 000sqm of P-Grade offices that are technologically efficient, safe and tranquil. There are many unique facilities that cater to commercial needs such as a business centre, 300-seater auditorium, lounge areas, and a number of smaller conference centres. The seventh floor is where most of the fun happens - here you can find a restaurant, wine cellar, gym, 25-metre pool, creche, children's play area, and manicured gardens.

  2. 92 Rivonia
For A-Grade showrooms, workshops, and flexi-office spaces, look no further than 92 Rivonia. The building, designed by DBM architects, stands 10-storeys high and has earned a 4-Star Green Star rating from the Green Building Council South Africa (GBCSA). The biggest tenant here is Mercedes-Benz, which has showrooms and workshops on the three lower floors of the building. Businesses at 92 Rivonia have access to retail outlets, conference rooms and entertainment offerings.

  3. Katherine Towers
Katherine Towers is a P-Grade development that is located within an opulent mixed-use development known as Katherine Street. It is a 20-story building with exceptional offices, each boasting exceptional views over the suburb. The commercial component takes up 11 floors - and each floor features scenic terraces that are perfect for mini-breaks. Katherine Towers has earned a 4-Star Green Star rating from the GBCSA and has a stellar list of tenants such as Bidvest Bank, Peregrine, Citadel, and White & Case.

  4. Oxford Parks
Oxford Parks is one of the largest mixed-use precincts currently under construction, and the development is being built in phases. So far, the first phase is complete and the second phase is planned for completion in September of this year. This entire precinct will span an incredible 300 000sqm and will include A- and P- Grade offices, apartments, penthouses, hotels, boutique stores, and cafes. Phase one consists of three office blocks, a hotel, retail offerings, and restaurants. It is also the new head office for the oil company, BP South Africa. Phase two will offer two office buildings with 2500sqm of gross leasable area.

  5. The MARC
The MARC, which is an acronym for Maude and Rivonia Corner, is making a statement in Sandton with its eye-catching architectural design and five-star green rating. It is comprised of two office towers - the first tower is 17 floors high and the second is 12 floors. Together, it offers 62 000sqm of prime office space.
